The Nullification Crisis was a sectional crisis while Andrew Jackson was the president of U.S. It was mostly caused by South Carolina's 1832 Ordinance of Nullification, which declared that by the power of the state it can Nullify the tariff of 1828 and 1832 and void it within their borders. The tariffs were seen as a unjust because it benefited factories that were in the north and had foreign competitors. The South didn't see the tariffs as help so it eventually came to the idea of Nullification supported by John C. Calhoun. This created tensions with the north and even president Jackson that was a hard head and shouldn't be messed around with. It could have brought the civil war to an early start.Luckily Henry Clay came to the rescue with a compromise bill of 1833 that reduced the conflict and left the north and south in compromise. Although neither of the sides won , it showed how sectionalism was big issue and it foreshadowed the up coming Civil War.
